Charlie Smith High School (Kingston, Jamaica)

Founded in 1975 in South St. Andrew (originally named Jones Town Comprehensive), Charlie Smith High School is a government-owned secondary institution serving approximately 600 students today. Renamed in the 1980s in honor of community social worker Charlie Smith, the school upholds its motto: โ€œEffort โ€“ The Key to Successโ€, reflecting a strong commitment to holistic student development.

Once accommodating over 1,200 students in its early years, the school remains a vibrant hub for both academics and extracurricular excellence. Its football program has earned national recognition through consistent participation in the prestigious Manning Cup, with a notable finals appearance in 1986. It has also produced standout players like Christopher โ€œBellyโ€ Diaz, Desmond โ€œGorillaโ€ Davey, and Eugene โ€œBig Headโ€ Williams.

In September 2015, the school merged with Trench Town Comprehensive, broadening its educational mission and reinforcing its presence in the Halfโ€‘Wayโ€‘Tree/South St. Andrew community.
