Description:

Charlie Smith High School (Kingston, Jamaica)

Founded in 1975 in South St. Andrew (originally named Jones Town Comprehensive), Charlie Smith High School is a government-owned secondary institution serving approximately 600 students today. Renamed in the 1980s in honor of community social worker Charlie Smith, the school upholds its motto: “Effort – The Key to Success”, reflecting a strong commitment to holistic student development.

Once accommodating over 1,200 students in its early years, the school remains a vibrant hub for both academics and extracurricular excellence. Its football program has earned national recognition through consistent participation in the prestigious Manning Cup, with a notable finals appearance in 1986. It has also produced standout players like Christopher “Belly” Diaz, Desmond “Gorilla” Davey, and Eugene “Big Head” Williams.

In September 2015, the school merged with Trench Town Comprehensive, broadening its educational mission and reinforcing its presence in the Half‑Way‑Tree/South St. Andrew community.
