We are recruiting a Chief Accountant on behalf of a client based in Kingston, Jamaica.
The Chief Accountant will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of the Company, ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial information. Reporting to the CFO, the role provides technical accounting leadership, coordinates accounting activities across the Accounts Department, strengthens internal controls, supports financial reporting and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual close processes.
- Review and maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities across the Accounts Department.
- Ensure accounting transactions are accurately recorded and appropriately supported.
- Coordinate Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Inventory and General Ledger functions.
- Oversee inventory accounting and reconciliation processes.
- Review inventory adjustments, write-offs and stock variances.
- Monitor compliance with financial policies and internal controls.
- Identify and recommend improvements to accounting controls and procedures.
- Assist the CFO with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Prepare variance analysis and financial performance reports.
- Provide guidance, coaching and technical support to accounting staff.
- Promote accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement within the Finance team.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Professional qualification in ACCA, CPA or ACA preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in inventory-intensive environments preferred.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is desirable.
