Praise Academy of Dance is an interdenominational dance ministry founded by Cynthia P. Noble in 1993. Praise Academy Of Dance utilizes dance to convey the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially to the less fortunate, and to bring together people from different countries, cultures and denominational backgrounds in an atmosphere of praise and love of Jesus Christ. Praise Academy of Dance offers classes in various dance techniques like Ballet, Modern/Contemporary, Folk, Hip-Hop and Reggae.
Since 1999 Praise Academy has taken part in the annual National JCDC Festival, accumulating over 40 gold medals and 40 national trophies, and in 2003 captured the coveted Rex Nettleford Trophy for Excellence in Dance. Ms Noble has also been personally recognised for her work in the arts with the Bronze Musgrave Award (2011), and the National Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service in the field of Culture (dance) in 2014.
Praise Academy not only stresses technique but the use of the dance talent to convey the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Its local civic involvement includes performances at the National Prayer Breakfast, the Jamaica 50 celebrations, the National Emancipation, Independence and Heroes Day Church Services, the Prime Minister’s Annual Labour Day Concert, the NHT/JCDC Prayer Vigil, the National Council of Education Parenting Seminar, the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Emancipation Park and the Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society’s annual celebration of Human Rights Day. In the international sphere, the group has travelled to over 11 countries performing, conducting workshops, and engaging in evangelistic outreach activities.
Praise Academy is cognisant of dance being the heart of the Jamaican culture, and of its impact locally and globally. The academy’s mission is to use the discipline of dance to help transform lives, especially those of Jamaica’s young people. Each year the academy awards scholarships to children of inner city communities and provides mentorship and holistic support to them. Because of the love of dance ignited by their involvement in the academy, several of Praise’s students have gone on to become certified dance tutors/practitioners who continue to make their mark in Jamaica and further afield. In recognition of its growing impact, Praise Academy’s desire is to effect change on a larger scale by collaborating with the country’s children’s homes and other places of safety to offer dance education and training. It is currently pursuing initiatives to establish a permanent home where these girls and boys can come for regular training.
