Description:
The Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union Limited (JPCCU) was founded July 4th, 1955 by 11 rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force with each contributing one (1) shilling (equivalent of ten cents today). It was established with the specific mandate to encourage collective savings and to provide loans to the members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. To date, the Union’s raison d’être remains to help our Members elevate their financial status and achieve their goals; through specialized products formulated with their financial needs in mind.
The Credit Union started its operation in a small room at the East Street Police canteen. As the Movement grew and the membership rapidly increased, JPCCU moved its only operating office at the time to Elletson Road. The office was moved to Hope Road and later returned to Elletson Road. After many years of operation at the Elletson Road location, the need for greater comfort to our growing membership base became a priority resulting in the purchasing of its office space at Church Street, a building purchased solely from profits made by the Credit Union.
Today, JPCCU is the seventh largest in the Credit Union Movement in Jamaica, managing assets in excess of $4.2 billion for a membership of over 20,000. The Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union has spent over 60 years assisting thousands of members in home ownership, motor vehicle acquisition, and academic independence as well as in obtaining other forms of assets. JPCCU has been a beacon in contributing to the marked improvement in the overall quality of life of its Members and their families. Ours is a proud and enviable track record of success on which, with confidence, we continue to build.
Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union is collectively owned by its Members and governed by a member-elected Board of Directors who is responsible for governance and policy making. The Supervisory and Credit Committees as well as other sub-committees are also key players in guiding the decision-making process and the development of standards and policies. Our Members are served by a team of competent, dedicated and professional staff who take great pride in empowering our Valued Members and their families socially and financially. Our committed Team Members are also depositors and as a result are shareholders in the Credit Union. The general operations of the Credit Union are managed by the General Manager and additional staff complement in excess of 60 employees led by the Management Team.
JPCCU currently has a branch network of five (5) full services branches located in Kingston, Portmore, St. Mary, Mandeville and Montego Bay. We also serve our members through six (6) agencies located in Morant Bay, Port Antonio, May Pen, Spanish Town, Black River and Savannah-La-Mar. Our presence continues to grow in the Diaspora through our Overseas Liaisons, the Jamaica Ex-Police Association Presidents of the various chapters (Immigration Chapters) from Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, New Jersey, Connecticut, South and Central Florida as well as the Immigration Chapter.
