Description:

In 1946 a young Canadian Optometrist named Charles Broadbent, opened an optical store at 11/4 Duke Street, Kingston and began practicing his skills. There began a long and illustrious tradition of Broadbent’s eye care in Jamaica. Over the years, the business grew and although Charles Broadbent eventually sold it, the name “Broadbent” remained and became synonymous with reliable, thorough, and professional vision care, in short, the best in the business.

We began our expansion in the late 1960’s when another office was opened in Ocho Rios, initially on a part-time basis but now, very much a full time branch located at 2 Newlin Street. Soon to follow was a branch at Nuttall Medical Centre in 1974, which in 2008 was relocated to the Winchester Business Centre at 15 Hope Road (near Half Way Tree).

In the early 80’s, we went into Montego Bay, in the heart of the city at 25 St. James Street. This expansion was soon followed by a branch in Port Antonio, at 21 Harbour Street (beside Jamaica National Building Society). In 2005, we opened up shop in our Portmore location, in the Portmore Town Centre (beside Sangster’s Bookstore)

All our branches provide the services of either an ophthalmologist or optometrist and in most cases, both. A wide range of frames from high-end designers to our affordable budget lines in all shapes, sizes, and colours to fit every face are available at all locations. Our high quality lenses are either produced locally or for special orders, imported from our partner lab overseas. We also fit and supply contact lenses from a number of suppliers both here and abroad and our experts, who are the leaders in this field in Jamaica, are on hand We have a complement of over forty staff members, plus consultant ophthalmologists and optometrists together with many years of experience in the optical industry. All our eye care professionals, optical dispensers, technical and administrative staff, work as a team to provide the complete optical service package.

At Broadbent, we are ready and able to assist those in need and are actively involved in assisting the Lion’s Club with their Sight Foundation project at 28 Beechwood Avenue; just one example of Broadbent’s good corporate citizenship within the framework of our community outreach programme. Broadbent – a household name Jamaicans have come to know, rely on and trust with their eyes.
