Roderick Gordon, Principal, Gordon McGrath, Attorneys-at-Law Mr. Roderick Gordon has been practicing as an Attorney-at-Law since 1995.

Mr. Gordon has been involved in a number of significant civil litigation cases, including:

(1) The landmark McDonalds trademark dispute lawsuit
(2) Selective Homes v. Ashtrom Building Systems, a construction suit that lasted for more than 12 weeks in the Supreme Court and is reputed to be one of the longest civil trials in the Court’s history
(3) Eagle Financial v. Chen Young et ux, a matter that spanned 7 years, and is currently on appeal

Mr. Gordon has appeared in every Anti-dumping investigation and Jamaica’s first Safeguard case, either representing the Importer or foreign producer. In that regard, he has represented FERSAN, the largest fertilizer producer in the Dominican Republic, and the Ministry of Commerce and Fair Trade, by the Peoples’ Republic of China.

Mr. Gordon was a Director of the Jamaica Cricket Board from 1999 to 2008, and was then the Board’s primary Legal Advisor. Mr. Gordon has also had extensive experience in the field of Sport law and related contract negotiations. He has served as Chairman of the Contracts Committee of the Jamaica Cricket Association, as was responsible for the negotiations that ushered into the presence of the Mound, as well as KFC and other concessions into Sabina Park. He was also the marketing liaison to the West Indies Cricket Board for 4 years in Jamaica.

He has represented cricketers, footballers and companies in various negotiations and capacities. He is currently a Director of Kinetic Sport Management.

In the field of Entertainment law, Mr. Gordon has acted for a number of artists and companies, including Sonic Sounds, Harry Toddler, Beenie Man, True Blue, Kimani Robinson/RETV, BET, Mrs. Rita Marley and Chris Blackwell. He has also been involved in the developing film industry, a founding director of the Flashpoint Film Festival, as well as playing a commercial role in the Goldeneye Film Festival. Mr. Gordon is also currently a member of the Visual and Performing Arts Cluster, under the PSDP/ Jamaica Trade & Invest.

He has also been a member of the Trade Policy Committee of the PSOJ. In this capacity, he has represented Jamaica and CARICOM on 2 occasions at the Americas Business Forum in Ecuador and the United States, in the Dispute Settlement Negotiating Group. He was also part of the regional group examining the new role of the CAIC given the onerous trade negotiations faced by the Region.
